Waverly Fitzgerald: Teaching, Writing, Coaching
Supporting you in achieving your writing goals

Writing Coach

Coaching is my favorite role. After ten years of working as an editor, trying to fix mistakes long after they had been made, I realized that I prefer nurturing writers throughout the writing process.

Coaching for Seattle Writers
I meet with my Seattle clients in Capitol Hill coffee shops. We meet at whatever interval works best for you: weekly, monthly, bi-weekly. I help you determine your goals and keep you on track as you meet them. For some clients, my role is that of a sympathetic and sophisticated reader for writing that is generated between sessions. For other clients, I brainstorm plot possibilities or recommend reading material or assign exercises.

Manuscript Consultation
I will read your complete manuscript and provide you with a three to five page analysis of substantive issues that will improve its marketability. I charge $1 per double-spaced page. This fee includes an in-person meeting, if you like, to discuss my recommendations.

My Favorite Clients
My favorite clients are first novelists, memoir writers and people writing non-fiction book proposals and books. I'm especially good at helping writers eliminate jargon to appeal to a general audience. And I have an amazing talent for writing a zippy synopsis of your novel.

Success Stories
• I coached one client through three novels. After many discouraging responses from an agent and several publishers, he sold his second novel to a small press in California. This book was nominated for a Shamus award for best first private eye novel.

• I met weekly with a Seattle business coach who also teaches values-based business planning classes. Within three months she had completed a non-fiction book proposal (which a publisher said was one of the most professional they had ever seen) and completed her manuscript which is now under consideration at a publishing house.
